Run: 7.1 miles in :55:08 min. @ 6:45 a.m.

Weather Report: Mostly Cloudy, 62°F, 60% Humidity, Winds: From NE @ 9 mph; feels like 62°F.

Pace: 7:46 min./per mile avg.

Considerably cooler weather this morning (and forecast for the next few days) made going for a run much more attractive than in recent days. I took additional time this morning to more "aggressively" stretch out my legs so as to reduce the possibility of aggravating any lingering aches and pains. I was pleasantly surprised, as I drove the course later in the morning using the vehicle's odometer to determine how far I'd run (not the most accurate method, I know, but it's what I got) how far I had gone at such a consistent pace. (The pic to the right is of my car's "cockpit" courtesy of another poorly timed photographic opporuntity.)

Last evening my wife, stepson and I took my father-in-law out for a bite to eat after he had spent the day with my mother-in-law as he had knee replacement surgery. At dinner he inquired as to whether or not my ankles and knees were feeling better, had I registered for any upcoming runs. I responded by letting him know that despite the fact that I "guess" I feel a little better, the aches remain. "Of course," I shared, "I've signed up for a few runs in the next week."

"I should have figured," he added with a smile.

I'm not sure where all this is taking me, but when I feel inside as I felt today running, I do not look forward to the day when my body feels it can no longer take the pounding. I reckon its best to continue "riding the wave" while I still comfortably can...

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!

Save some gas ;-) and use Yahoo maps to get the mileage on your course. I use it all the time to map out my runs to get the requisite mileage. It's cool because you can map out the course by right clicking at key points along the way and selecting "Drive to here...".

On the injury front I would recommend trigger point therapy. See The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook. It's been key in keeping me on the road.

Also sportsinjurybulletin.com has some good exercises for achilles tendonitis treatment.

Good luck,
Patrick

WOW! I just went to Yahoo Maps and did as you suggested and what developed was AWESOME... the distance was exactly the same but the method was much better... it certainly is satisfying to get the visual of the distance covered.

I will also be picking up a copy of the book you suggested as I would much prefer more holistic methods of pain relief... my ankles and knees are very tender tonight and with all the food for thougth you've shared I'm very excited to get going.

thanks for visting and leaving such wonderfu suggestions!
