Weather: Partly Sunny, 82°F with a Humidity of 65%!Pace: 6:39 min./per mile avg.
Pre-Race Observations: Today’s run is the first formal race I’ve competed in since the last week of July. This morning’s Greece PAL is particularly special as both of my kids will accompanying me to the race, and my daughter will be running the course with her high school cross-country team. Some members of my “extended family,” those folks who are part of the school community in which I teach, may be there as well. The start and finish for this run are the Greece Town Hall and Library, both of which are about a mile from school.
Post-Run Reflections: WOW, was it hot! While running I felt confident I had maintained a good pace, that is until I came down the finish and realized I was almost 1 minute of my finish from last year... c'est la vie. Apparently the humidity was a concern for everyone as I still placed third in my age group.
My daughter also ran a little off her previous timed run, but she is recovering from a stress fracture and considering the overall temperatures, I felt she ran very valiantly and gained some valuable experience.
Run 2: 2.4 miles in :19:00-ish min. @ 11:30 a.m.
Weather: Partly Sunny, 82°F with a Humidity of 65%!Pace: Very Liesurely!
Despite the heat and humidity (and this morning's 5k), I really wanted to stay on track with my training plan. I was flexible in swapping out today's planned 10-miler for tomorrow's 6 miler. Figuring that I had warmed-up for the race by doing at least 1 mile, that left me "owing" 2 miles. If I wait till tomorrow evening to go the 10 it will (hopefully) grant me the necessary recover time and lead me into Monday's recovery day...
Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
