Pace: 7:11 min./per mile avg.
As a high school cross-country runner at my alma mater, Edison Tech, I spent the better part of two-years worth of Fall afternoons running and goofing-off at Cobbs Hill Park in Rochester, NY. Now, almost twenty years later, I still enjoy running by the park and using what was once the finishing chute field as the start of my final ½ mile home during most runs.
Early this grey, drizzly morning I took another step towards reaching my training goals by doing a single repeat (oxymoron?) on the face of Cobbs Hill beginning at Monroe Avenue and on up, up, up to the reservoir at the top. I incorporated two such hill-sprints into my route today and it felt great to once again run what was once a familiar hill I had trained on so frequently as a student. Though I pass by it nearly every day, I had not scaled Cobbs Hill in running shoes since my return to regular running a few years ago.
There are lots of personal ghost milling about that park, some of which are resurrected in the guise of old school running partners from time-to-time, and it was nice to take another stroll up and down the worn trail with the spirits in tow...
Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
