"Nobody trips over mountains. It is the small pebble that causes you to stumble. Pass all the pebbles in your path and you will find you have crossed the mountain."~Author Unknown
After almost eight weeks of following my fairly ambitious fourteen week road to an ultra marathon, one concern that has come up is the very real possibility of over training. Some possible tell-tale signs of this happening are a lack of motivation, lingering achiness and a general blase attitude toward training as a whole.

This week has been a "recovery week," of sorts, as evidenced by the planned reduction in overall mileage. While I have noticed, or maybe just become more aware of, some tenderness in the back of my ankles, I have continued to forge ahead by meeting my mileage expectations this week. My "forging" ahead has been further marked by a reemphasise on stretching and preparing before and after each run, instead of just recklessly running for runnings sake.

Last week's failure to meet some of the toughest (i.e. longest!) mileage goals caused my to take pause and question the likelihood of my being able to run the 32.6 mile run I am planning to complete on November 10. But after processing this brief training misstep during the course of the last few days, I've come to realize (again) that worrying and questioning will only reinforce, or bring to the surface, any doubts I have deep inside, and that these negative vibes... once these harmful thoughts are empowered by my doubt, it will become exponentially more unlikely that I will be unable to achieve my overall goal.

So, I am going to continue moving forward in a relaxed, but focused spirit, and choose NOT to give power to the doubts and feelings of failure that might creep into my runs...

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
