Week 12, Key Run Workout #3

Run: 15 miles in 2:05:21 min. @ 7:00 a.m.
Scheduled Workout: 20 miles(!)
Weather: Snow, 28°F, 85% Humidity, Wind: From NNE @ 16 mph; feels like 16°F.
Course: Around the Bay 2008 (Irondequoit Bay)
Pace: 8:22 min./per mile

This morning finds our Upstate New York community under another "Winter Storm Warning," and as much as I would like to stay snuggled in bed, I am also very aware that the likelihood of my motivating myself to run (while powerful) might not be enough unto itself, so I am making my coffee and prepping my oatmeal with the intention of heading out to a group run, one which will take us around the Irondequoit Bay.

A very long run is planned for the third of three weekly Key Runs.
long run: six to 20 miles at 5k pace plus 75 to 90 seconds
I am fairly sure that given the weather and the early warning signs I am currently experiencing that I will not get my twenty in today but rather will focus on the fifteen offered at the group run and complete the balance on Sunday. Who knows, I may even commit to some snowshoeing tomorrow, especially if my wife and children would like to come, too.

The run went well, though my pace was slow (on the surface) the challenging road conditions and hills are likely the reason rather than my taking it too easy. I have not previously participated in many group runs (actually, this may be like my second!), but greatly enjoyed the camaraderie which came with the experience. I spoke and ran with a few runners, ranging from recreational runners, to excellent local female runners to one of the folks with whom I ran the Rochester Marathon Relay last fall. It was nice to connect (and in some cases re-connect), though I hope I did not appear rude as I didn't introduce myself to everyone with whom I ran. I suppose I can make up for that at a later date, as most were familiar faces.

All in all, despite not hitting twenty miles (there's always tomorrow) it was an excellent way to spend the morning...

Breathe in, breathe out… YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
