Week 7, Key Workout Run #2a

Scheduled Workout: 2 miles @ easy tempo, 6 miles @ mid-tempo, 2 mile easy (10 total)
Weather: Mostly Cloudy, 55°F, 84% Humidity, Wind: CALM; feels like 55°F.
Total Run: 8.5 miles in 1:04:45 min. @ 4:15 p.m.
Average Mile Page: 7:36 min/mi
Course: An older route, made using USATF's Map It!, the Highland/Elmwood Loop.

Arriving at school this morning, and after looking at my calendar and recognizing how many days it had been since my last "real" training run, I resolved early on today to go for a run following work. Truthfully, I did not necessarily "want" to or even look forward to the task, but I am committed to at least following through on my May marathon for now, and having already booked a hotel and payed the outrageous entry fee, there is no turning back.

Part of my lack of desire, I suspect, is that the past few runs I 've been on have not felt particularly comfortable. Actually, they have been down-right uncomfortable, and this evening was no different. I am pretty sure I need to buy a new pair of running shoes, and given the cost (everything is more expensive now it seems) I will have to settle for only new road shoes and use my current trail runners for a little while longer. I would like to wait for road shoes to go on sale, but I'm not sure how many more miles I can put on these trainers without beginning to increase my probability of injury.

This week would be a good one during which to by new shoes as I would also be able (hopefully) bring them into my podiatrist so that he can adhere the proper insert onto the sole to account for my Morton's toe on my rigth foot. Here's to hoping for a shoe sale this weekend!

Breathe in, breathe out… YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
