Not to worry friends, you have not bookmarked a tourist site by mistake! This is still Earth House Hold, but over the next day or two my wife and I will be on a late summer roadie, and because some of the sites we will visit have been informed by the spirit of this blog, I thought I'd bring you along.
After a hearty breakfast of blueberry pancakes, orange juice, and coffee, Ann and I set out for Ithaca, New York. For those who don't know, the town of Ithaca is in the heart of the Finger Lakes region of New York state and is widely recognized for its gorges, hiking, arts and wines. Cornell University and Ithaca College are both located within the city limits.
So, despite the cost of gas having risen to $2.69 a gallon, we filled up the tank (to the tune of $27.46) and started out on the New York State Thruway with visions of vineyards, views, and vegetables in our heads…
After traveling down Route 96, we exited the thruway and drove past trailer parks, farm silos, and little league baseball fields. Our estimated time arrival had been coordinated so that we would arrive in town early enough to visit the Ithaca Farmers Market where local artists, crafts people and organic farmers deal their wares. Recommended as a possible destination of interest by a colleague of mine, I thought this might be a good opportunity to sample and support our regional organic farmers.
