The cloudy and somewhat cool(er) weather conditions which were present for yesterday morning's Empire State Games 10k have given way to the much more (of recent) stifling heat and humidity. My wife has been reminding me that it's 100+ in Colorado, where we'll be running next week, so I have been purposely planning my training runs for when it is warmest here. Mission accomplished--kind of! I had intended to run during the afternoon/evening but was side tracked with family stuff.
This morning, there was no stopping me... I dropped my daughter off at the (summer) school bus stop and hit the road as soon as I pulled into the driveway. I once again toured our fair city by foot: past the coffee shop, down Main Street and to the left of the Liberty Pole, by the War Memorial Arena (again), along the newly built river-side condos and, finally, over the Ford Street Bridge. I also ran the sloping hillside(s) of Highland Park before heading home through the Swillburg neighborhood...
Tomorrow I have my follow-up appointment with the orthopedist regarding my knees, which have been very achy of late. This time, the doc will be armed with both x-rays and MRI pix as he looks to give me some insight into where to go from here. Rather than sounding like a whiny broken record ("wah--my knees hurt!"), hopefully, I'll be able to lay out a plan following the meeting, which may just mean sucking it up and dealing with it if I want to continue running. Oddly, that might be the best case scenerio--I'd like to avoid surgery or a long lay-off (which can't really begin until after August 11 and 12's Wild West Relay, anyway).
Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
