There is something intimidating about picking up your race packet. The folks who are coordinating the whole she-bang are very supportive and friendly, but it is difficult to avoid the stacks of numbers neatly piled up for all the registered participants--many of whom will be faster than you. This is of course, a fact, so I try to make the competition an internal on, always looking to imporve upon my previous PR. Generally, if I finish i the better part of "the neighborhood," it's all good!
The run for which I am registered tomorrow, the Greece Athletic Police Athletic League Run, is only a 5K. I say "only" 5k becuase since my return to training after the Wild West Relay, my distance runsa hve been minimal. I'm hoping to break the pattern on Sunday with a Long Slow Run. My previous PR for this distance is :20:37.5 min. (6:39 split) in April, so a fair goal would be to better that time.
Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
