I woke up a little later than usual this morning. "Later" is, of course, a relative term when talking about getting out of bed before 6:00 a.m., and while I did still have time to ride, I could not go for as long as I would have liked, and still get a shower, dress, make lunch and have my son ready to go by our ETA, 6:10 a.m. The weather folks are also predicting wintry weather for Saturday and Sunday (a good thing), a particularly good possibility as I am hoping to snowshoe tomorrow. But for this morning, my brief ride went well, although I spent more time with Taming the Tiger Within by Thich Nhat Hanh, than My Brother Sam Is Dead, the deadline for completion of which is rapidly approaching.
A relevant excerpt, given the events hinted at in the "Comments" for yesterday's training post, from Tiger:
The reason we are foolish enough to make ourselves suffer and make the other person suffer is that we forget that we and the other person are impermanent. Someday we will die and lose all of our possessions, our family, our power, everything. Our freedom, peace, and joy in the present moment is the most important thing we have. But without an awakened understanding of impermanence, it is not possible to be happy.Wake up, already!
