Tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m., or so, Jack and I will departing on our seven-hour roadie (in our Scion pictured to the right) south through Western New York, the northern-most part of Pennsylvania, and into the heart of Ohio for Sunday’s Last Chance for Boston Marathon. It amounts to about 400 miles each way, 800 miles round trip.If you are even an occasional visitor to this blog, you probably realize that, although I have not been running the last eight days due to a cold, I am still committed to going this weekend to the race, if for no other reason, but to spend the time with my son. I must, however, confess to being a little nervous about driving such a long distance, especially the return trip following the race on Sunday. 400 miles each way. 800 miles round trip.
I have never been much of a long distance driver, usually relying on the kindness of strangers, or my wife, to do most of the long haul driving. The way down will likely be fueled with conversation (us), talk radio (me), modern rock (him) and caffeine (uh... me, again) and the ride home will need at least that, as the seven hour ride will be preceded by a 3 and a half to four hour marathon run. While there is a sense of excitement about testing the limits of my endurance, I won’t do it at the risk of endangering my son, so if need be, I’ll pull over and grab some zzzz-s.
Adio, wli nanawalmezi.
