Hey, I Thought This Was a "Running" Blog?

Me, too, though recently my blog focus has been as "off" as my running...

I have not attempted to run since last Wednesday, and as a result, my level of preparedness (conditioning?) has diminished over the past two weeks, as my average weekly mileage has dropped from twenty-five miles a week (on the moderate side) to less than three. I had planned to run quite a few races over the next three weeks but have decide to set the first of those, next weekend's Johnny's Running o' the Green, aside in the interest of looking forward. Johnny's is a five-miler, a race for which I will not be able to train correctly, even if I do receive some great news and advice at either the podiatrist's appointment I have scheduled for next Tuesday, March 13, or the orthopedist's, an appointment I am hoping to make today for "who knows when."

Fortunately, my time "away" from road training has not been completely without exercise, as evidenced by the frequent anecdotes and photos I have posted from my weekend snowshoeing excursions with my family. While the level of "cardio-challenge" is lower than when I run, I am glad to at least be out and about. Additionally, I have been praticing yoga and using the stationary bicycle, when the pain is not so great.

Yesterday afternoon, my wife told me that "You know, there are other things you can do if you are unable to run like you have before." I can't deny that she's, not only right, but that I may need to begin exploring some alternatives...

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!

Cool shoes. Can you suggest some at-home yoga resources? My middle age is catching up with me (I'm as flexible as an ironing board), and I could use some suggestions.

i recommend any of the beginner series (maybe AM/PM Yoga) of yoga tapes (DVDs!) featuring rodney yee...they are generally reasonable in length (20-30 min.) and low cardio with an emphasis on stretching... any good series will also offer suggestions on how to adapt for individual use.
