The Training Week That Was… 8/6-12

A transitional week as I move into a new training plan beginning tomorrow which will ultimately prepare me (I hope) for a long(er) distance race in November. Designed for recreational runners who have been running an average of 40 miles (this week not-withstanding) a week for six weeks, a category which I neatly fall into, the plan calls for “Rest Days” on Monday and Friday, moderately paced runs on Tuesday thru Thursday and back-to-back progressively longer runs (beginning at eight miles and building to twenty-three miles on Saturday and Sundays.

I have always had something of challenge staying with plans, but I’m willing to give it a go and remain patient as the mileage increases... here’s a quickie recap of how things went this past week:
Legend: R = Running, R(T) = Running on Treadmill, Bicycling (B), w/A (with Anne), w/J (with Jack), E = Easy Pace, and I've also noted increases (+x) or decreases (-x) from the previous week)

Monday: B 23.7 miles
Tuesday: R 4.5 miles
Wednesday: R 5 miles
Thursday: R 7.3 miles (2 Runs = 5.5 solo + 1.8 w/A (E))
Friday: B 14.8 miles
Saturday: R 8.1 mile
Sunday: R x miles (2 Runs = 6.4 solo + 3 w/A (E))
TOTALS--R 34.3 miles (-6.4 miles from the previous week), B 38.5 miles (+9.4 miles)

Weigh-In*: 181 lbs. (-2 lbs.) [* took place at 5:30 a.m. on 8/13]
Hmmm… the miles that I “lost” in running were “gained” by my bicycling. Additionally, half of the mileage I did accrue by running were attained on trails with more challenging slopes. HUZZAH!

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
