2007 Inner Harbor Run Invitational

This morning Anne and I drove out to Syracuse, New York, to support my stepson, Gregory, and the rest of his Modified Cross-Country team as they participated in 2007 Inner Harbor Run Invitational sponsored by the Syracuse Academy of Science. Seven teams of varying sizes from a variety of towns were in attendance to take part in two Modified (Grades 7-9)races, one for girls and one for boys. It was a beautiful cool day with a stiff breeze blowing off of Onondaga Lake.

The girls race went off first (see pic above center) and it was curious that the school sponsoring the event had only two runners entered, neither of whom finished in the top thirty. A small, relatively new charter school, Syracuse Academy of Science needed to start somewhere and I'm glad they chose cross-country... perhaps next year they will have more athletes on the team.

Gregory's school, McQuaid Jesuit, is a private, all-boys school we after enjoying the girls race, we settled in for the main event (at least in our eyes). The course was a slight increase in distance compared to what the boys had been racing of late. The increase from a 1.5 to two-miler did not seem to negatively impact the team's performance.

Gregory looked strong coming down the finish and many of his teammates also improved on their previous performances.

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
