Generally, I enjoy running in the rain, but with a turkey trot tomorrow, and little time to run before work today, I passed on lacing up the shoes in favor of some basement bicycling. This late afternoon I spent twenty minutes on the trainer, which combined with the fifteen I pedalled yesterday, provided a thirty-five minutes of combined warm-and loosen-up session before tomorrow's mid-morning race.
This past summer I would use cycling to maximize my "off days," as well as to supplement the road miles I was putting in as part of my training plan. During this time I was overly nutty about tracking my mileage, and though I had a cyclometer to monitor all kinds of information (cadence? revolutions?), but the "conversion" that I generally use is turning minutes into miles. When riding on the road, a comfortable pace (for moi) is a four minute mile. Each time I basement bicycle I do so at the highest level of resistance (21st gear) and at a comfortable pace, so if I cycled for 35 minutes I have "traveled a total of approximately 8 miles.
