When we first pulled into the long winding road leading up to the school’s parking lot, we were greeted by a sandwich board sign which had “$5.00 Entry Fee per Car” written in red on it. About ten feet further up the road there were, what appeared to be, two adults collecting money. At this moment our trip had become undone as I knew that we only had four dollars and change, since I had brought only five dollars with me and we needed some change for the return trip on the New York State Thruway.
I quickly made a “k” turn and drove out the entrance way. Discouraged and angry, Jack and I drove about a ½ mile and called Jordyn’s mother to inform her that we wouldn’t be able to go to the race as we had no money. (I felt like something of a hobo, but I generally don’t carry cash and was only had a five dollar.)
Fortunately we stopped on our way out of town about seven miles toward home when Jack’s mother called me back on my cell to let me know that they managed to get in without paying. We then hurried back and made it just in time to watch (and photograph) the race...
And they're off (maybe for the final time this year for most, as only the top few in the Class go on to the state meet next week.

Jordyn's improvement continues to astonish! She's coming down the finish here with plant of space between her and those runners behind her. At this point I had asked y son to count the runners ahead of her so I could determine her place... when I asked Jack, he answered "Uh... around thirteenth maybe?"

Jack was right--Jordyn placed 13th overall and third on her team! She also bested a runner on her team whom she hadn't beaten all year. As always, the girls were collectively happy for one another's success.

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
