The Training Week That Was… 1/14-11/20

A very productive running week, although one in which a previously existing condition (Morton's toe on my right foot) reared it's ugly head enough were I need to call the podiatrist for a return visit and consultation. My uncomfortable right foot aside, it was rewarding to return to some semblance of scheduled training which culminated in my hitting a longstanding PR for the trail surface.

There are not too many local 10k runs on the trail surface, but my best previous time had been excited in November 2005 (:49:23). Yesterday's 10snowshoe race was converted into a frigid 10k trail run and my time (unofficial as the times haven't been posted yet) was :48:07, an improvement of 1:16! Granted everyone else improved, too, so I did not necessarily place any higher, but my reward was in finishing and improving upon my past times.

In the recap below those miles I was schedule to run appear in parentheses. This week I went over some of the daily totals, due mostly to the fact that the plan I'm following does not take into account my current level of fitness (which I would venture to guess was above average, thought I had been in "recovery mode")... so I felt the need to do a little more this week. Of course, there will be times when I do not feel so inclined!

The total mileage I had planned on putting in this week was 20 miles:
Legend: R = Running. I've also noted increases (+x) or decreases (-x) from the previous week)

Monday: Recovery Day
Tuesday: (2) R 3.5 miles
Wednesday: (2) R 4.8 miles
Thursday: (2) R 2.5 miles
Friday: Recovery Day
Saturday: (8) R 8 miles
Sunday: (6) R 7.2 miles

TOTALS--R 26 miles (+13.8 miles from the previous week)
Weigh-In*: 185 lbs. (-1.5 lbs.) [* took place at 6:30 a.m. on 1/21]
I have planned a very ambitious racing schedule for the coming week. Next weekend I am registered for two races, the GRTC Freezeroo Series Race #4 Hearnish "10k" on Saturday and the Lake Effect Snowshoe Festival half-marathon on Sunday.

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!

Wow, a snowshoe race. Now that's not something you read about every day! OMG, I can only imagine what that must've felt like. ;-) You are one courageous cookie! My toes are freezing just thinking about running in those temperatures!

hopefully (well, actually, hopefully not!) this weekdnt there may actually be some snow! i've found that the snowshoes make the runs more challenging (watch out for your ankles!) and help vary the interest a little... I always feel like the cold is no big deal, that is until a few days later when my nose won't stop running ;)

cheers and thanks for commenting!
