ARGHH... Fare Thee Well, Fruity Pirates!

Having been sick for a few days now, I decided last evening to take a day off from work today. Of course though I am not at school teaching, I find myself grading papers and planning the next few weeks of class work... such is the life of an educator. I also stopped by the local mega-lo-mart to pick up dome ice cream (I should qualify for the Clydesdale division of road races once I start running again!) and noticed a change in one of my favorite flavors of Ben & Jerry's.

To the upper left you'll notice the Berried Treasure packaging as it previously existed on the frozen goods shelf at your neighborhood store. I have always been partial to both the clever pun ("Berried Treasure"... Ha!), as well as the kooky cartoon pirates depicted on the packaging. Check out the blueberry with a bandanna on his "head"... classic!

Now note the new package as I found it this morning. While the image is small (I couldn't find an equally obnoxiously sized one on-line to match the "old" one), if you look carefully maybe you'll see the change... no, not just the color change, look closer... yep the FRUITY PIRATES ARE GONE! In a world where the real Adam West Batman has been replaced by a more "real" gritty violent Batman, apparently the world could no longer take the playful antis of the Fruity Pirates, as they too have been replaced by realistic depictions of fruits... ARGHH, mateys, tis a sad day!

I guess I'll have to drown my disillusion in some fat-free Berried Treasure!
