Pre-Run Ruminations: This morning's race is the first of six Freezeroo races sponsored by one of my local running organizations, Greater Rochester Track Club (GRTC). I have not really trained or prepared in other way except that I have signed up and will therefore be going. The goal for today's run is to finish confidently with a smile on my face and perhaps in the top 30%. Until (and if I ever) work my way back onto a consistent training plan, it is probably best to be smart about the "racing" I do participate in so as to not create an injury that will sideline me longer than a busy schedule has.Post-Race Reflections: As planned I went out slow logging a nearly 8:00 minute split for mile 1. Following that period of warming up and talking with friends, I picked it up a little bit (actually, probably too much) and finished in a fairly respectable time. The course was a new one for me and very nicely laid out with some slightly changing scenery and rolling minor inclines/declines.
The weather, though, chilly, was appropriately freez-a-roo-ey and everyone was in tremendous spirits throughout. I had thought about not going (due to the late hour of last night's track meet ending and a general malaise), but am glad I opted to go. I am looking forward to maybe (fingers crossed!) running all of six of the vents this year... of course I likely just jinxed myself!
