"Merry Christmas, You Ole' 5k..."
Annually for the past few years I have followed from afar the local holiday non-race race that is the George Bailey 5k, often giving strong consideration to whether or not I should join in the revelry.
Frank Capra's It's a Wonderful Life, like most folks I suppose, is a film favorite of mine, and the spirit of the run (as you can see from the "trailer" above) seems itself (okay, I'll say it) "wonderful." This year's GB5k is coming up on Friday, December 19...
This 5k race is itself something of a mystery within the running community, as evidenced by the fact that it does not appear on any of the on-line running calendars of note, at least as of today, that is). There are no medals and hoo-hah, but it is a run, the recommended donation is nominal, and it is for a good cause (something of which there is some debate about around here as to being a relevant condition for registering), but these qualities seem to be what I am looking for in a "race" of late...
