Pre-Run Observations: What a difference forty-eigth hours can make. Just twp days ago, we were wearing shorts and picking up sticks klnocked from trees due to high winds. Yesterday I spent the day shoveling out from under 12" of snofall. Today, like yesterday, it's freezing out.Last night (New Year's Eve), in anticipation of this morning's run, I watched the local weather forecast and noticed that the weather-reader suggested that there would be a continuation of the recent frigid temperatures. I remarked to my wife that "it's going to be so-o-o cold tomorrow morning. I'm not sure I want to run in that race."
She responded to my complaint that "you signed up for the series... isn't it called the Freezeroo race or something like that?"
Uh-huh. So this morning I'm drinking coffee, eating oatmeal and trying to gear myself up for what in all likelihood be a true FREEZING run...
Post-Race Reflections: While it was indeed "freezing," at least initially, the sun did make an appearance during the run and the conditions (once I was warmed up0 turned out to be ideal for a January run. Though the roads were a little slippery in spots, those other folks participating were extremely courtesy as we made sure to leave room for one another on the exposed road, were the traction was considerably better.
I felt much stronger today, and I went out at about a 7:30 min/mile pace, starting in my traditional position toward the back of the pack. As the race progressed, I grew more confident in my sense of conditioning and attempted to move up through the pack(s). By the conclusion of the race I had just enough for a 100m kick into the chute, and (taking the advice I give the athletes who I coach) proceeded to do a cool down run into the pavilion were bananas, water and coffee awaited.
This was my thi4rd News Years Resolution run and once again the perfect way to kick-off a new beginning...
Embrassez votre été invincible!
