An Impromptu Summer Census of Rabbits

4:00 p.m. just off the sidewalk near the WHEC Channel 10 offices on Monroe Avenue.

During the course of this past summer, I have spent many an early morning and mid-afternoon walking around our city for no other reason than to be out and about. On frequent occasions during my walks I have invariably come across a small rabbit or two. Some are clearly "bunnies" being small in size and fluffier than one would imagine, while others are more "rabbitty": longer, leaner and more likely to dart into the bushes. While I'm sure there have always been rabbits scurrying about my neighborhood, it wasn't until this summer that I noticed them so frequently, and in plain view.

I was just thinking to myself yesterday, though, that it had been a few days since my last having come across one. That changed this afternoon when, while making my way up Monroe Avenue to check out "The Crater" which no lies where Midtown Plaza once was, that just outside the WHEC 10 news offices (and across the street from Spot Cafe'), I happened upon the medium-sized rabbit blurrily pictured above relaxing in the shade.

The time of day, late in the afternoon, struck me as unusual, as did the fact that he (she?) was sitting in plain view seemingly watching the street unaware of my presence, or more reasonably, just simply ignoring it. The rabbit did not start to run, or even shake, as I fumbled for the small digital camera I usually carry with me while out (for just these sort of occasions).

This is just one of dozens such pictures I've taken, many of which I haven't posted because, at some point, they all look the same. And so my impromptu photographic census of city rabbits I come across continues...
