Bicycling: 8.5 miles in :36:12 min. @ 3:00 p.m.

Weather: Cloudy, 72°F, 49% Humidity, Winds: SSW @ 10 mph; feels like 72°F.

Pace: 4:16 min./per mile avg.

Why "Bicycling" rather than "Cycling"? Previously, when identifying my duo-wheel-propelled cross-training travels I had referred to the training practice by the much more officious title of "Cycling," which might conjure images of Lance Armstrong and the Tour de France in your mind. It has often occurred to me though, as it did today while strappping on my raher nerdy headgear, that the activity I am in actuality performing is much more causal and recreational in nature... so "Bicycling" it is!

It is much more challenging gauging mileage using Yahoo! Maps when following one's tire track trajectory as one (well, me anyway) is more likely to turn corners, go down one-way streets and other such kooky road ways that might take me beyond the rigid 26 ("A" to "Z") points accessible in the Maps program. (Phew--I made it using only up through "U"!)

I enjoy mixing things up a little, and while I had intended to run a short distance today, the feeling in my ankle warned me that such a choice might not be in my best interest. I did, however, went to sign up for tomorrow's Jungle Jog 5k to benefit the Monroe County Seneca Park Zoo Society. I quick perusal of last year's results showed that it is a large race with 500-600 registrants, so my goal will be to finish in the top 20% (and enjoy the scenery)!

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!

If Yahoo Maps is proving a bit restrictive, you might try USATF's Running Routes system - I use it all the time and have never encountered the quirks you've mentioned on Yahoo Maps. The URL is http://www.usatf.org/routes/

Enjoy! JMH
