Training Run with Junior

Run: 1.5 miles in :18:45 @ 9:30 a.m.

Weather: Mostly Cloudy, 78°F, 66% Humidity, Winds: SSW @ 9 mph; feels like 80°F.

Pace: 12:30 min./per mile avg.

This Fall, all three of my children are planning on running cross-country at their respective schools: my son for the modified team at the public middle school he attends, my daughter for her varsity team in the same school district, and my step-son for the modified team at his private school. While none may yet be mistaken for Olympians (I said, “yet”), I am proud that they are all trying something new. I have written previously about my running/training adventures with both my daughter and step-son, and today, my son and I went for a short run on one of the Erie Canal trails.

The weather, though very summer-like, was almost ideal... warm, cloudy, pleasant, especially under the relatively shady canopy provided by the growth on the Erie Canal running path. We ran at a pretty brisk rate for a while before turning back and completing our loop. The course we took began at Lock 32 (pictured to the right), headed out, and returned back to Lock 33.

After our run, Jack helped me drive (in our car) the course for the race I am registered to participate in this evening. Given my mis-step at the last run (if you'll recall I took a wrong turn resulting in the loss of a place in my age group), so that, although it won't necessarily make me faster, I won't end up on a street by myself...

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
