A New Day with New Shoes!

Run: 4.7 miles in :36:00 min. @ 6:20 a.m.

Pace: 7:40 min./per mile avg.
Weather: Cloudy, 69°F
Course: Loop--East Ave. to E. Highland Dr. to Highland Dr. to Monroe Ave., Rochester/Brighton, Monroe County

Today was the first day of a new par of road trainers which are (surprise!) exactly the same as the pair they are replacing… Mizuno Waverider 10s. Before this lat pair of shoes I had stuck pretty close to the mainstream regarding my road trainers choosing to wear mostly NIKE or ASICS. I have really loved this last pair of Mizunos so I was thrilled when my wife bought me a replacement pair online at a closeout price… now in my dumb-little-head this means I can invest what would have been spent on the road trainers to by the new pair of trail running shoes I need…

After yesterday’s rather “hilly” run, both of my knees were very achy, so this morning I set out to run a much flatter road course. I am still planning on running the scheduled half marathon on Sunday, though I am considering moving Saturday’s 8 miler to Friday afternoon so that I can use a recovery day on the day before and after the “race.” Of course, because the ½ marathon is itself taking the place of a necessary 12 mile training run, I’m not sure how I will “run” it: at a fast-for-me race pace or as a moderately paced training run. The course is a challenging one, especially the final few miles, so regardless of how I plan to run the whole thing I will need to pace myself in such a way that I can finish strong.

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
