Night Running with Cookies in My Belly

Run: 4.8 miles in :36:16 min. @ 8:45 p.m.

Pace: 7:36 min./per mile avg.
Weather: Partly Cloudy, 74°F
Course: Harvard to Oxford to East Ave. to Winton to Highland to Culver, and finally Canterbury…

As I was sleeping in the passengers seat of our car, driving home from my in-laws at around 8:15 p.m., the absolute last thing I wanted to do when we got home was to lace up my running shoes. I had eaten (only an hour earlier) one too many serving of homemade macaroni and cheese, and two too many cinnamon sugar cookies, and having been up since 4:45 a.m., I only wanted to sleep.

Slumped down and nodding off as we pulled in the driveway, I told my wife, "I'm not going out tonight... I just don't think it's happening." Of course, once I sat at the kitchen table I began to realize that this was just the first of many nights that training didn't seem to fit into my schedule or plans. The real work of teaching and learning, that career which means so much to me, was just beginning.

I sucked it up and went out the door, and roughly forty minutes later, I felt better for having done it.

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
