Coming Soon: National Bike to Work Day!?!

With the price of gas being what it is, and an desire on my part ot be kinder to the earth, I have told my wife repeatedly that this summer, I will be riding my bicycling to and from wherever as frequently as possible. At one point a few years ago, I was fotuten enough to live within close proximity to the school I taught at and could easily ride my bike to work. I have been thinking about riding my bicycle to my current school of employ and it would appear as the perfect opportunity, what with May being National Bike Month and May 16 being National Bike-Walk to Work Day.

Unfortunately, the trip will not be nearly as easy as it once was, especially now that I work in the 'burbs... The "easiest" way for me to get from Point A (my home in Rochester, NY) to Point B (school in Greece, NY) and back is to avoid the expressways and inner city and take the Erie Canal Trailway for the majority of the distance. When driving in my car, and using the expressway, the total trip is about 12 miles. Bicycling on the canal and main streets will equate to about 16 miles total.

The mileage breaks down like this:
2.5 miles from my house to the South Clinton Erie access Clinton Ave. to Long Pond on the Erie Canal is approximately 8.7 miles., 4.5 miles from Long Pond canal exit to my school 15.7 miles.
So over the next week and a half, I will be tentatively planning a bicycling trip for that day... but of course if it is raining or (GASP!) snowing, all bets are off!

Breathe in, breathe out… YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
