had a number of opportunities to get out to the local parks to snowshoe together... hopefully, with a little snow and some luck we'll get to do so again this year.
Last evening was the first of a series of night time snowshoe races being offered in a nearby park, and while I had hoped to participate (and had already registered for the entire series) I missed out on the chance due to some extenuating circumstances. Though I am disappointed not have gone, I am relieved to have had the opportunity to get some rest, spend some time with my son, and to find a little breathing space in a somewhat congested holiday schedule.
The past few nights, I have not been sleeping well, mostly three-to four hours, and with indoor track practice and five-week period assessments at school, I have had little time to train or participate in any road races (or at least perform well in them!).
Again, the great thing about being an avid recreational athlete is that there are always more opportunities to test your mettle, and so there are five more snowshoe events (in this series alone) in addition to all manner of pseudo-competitive goofiness available in the coming months, some of which I'm sure to get my act together for! Even better is the possibility for my family and I to get out together in a (slightly) less competitive situation to hike in the parks together...
Embrace your invincible summer!
