Pre-Meet Ramblings of a Rookie Coach Assistant

On the heels of this afternoon's early dismissal from school (due to a quickly moving snowstorm which dropped nearly seven inches of snow in little over four hours!), it appears as though our team will indeed be taking the hour plus ride East to Hobart to compete in our third Varsity/JV Indoor Track & Field Meet of the season.

Though it occasionally feels like we are are (momentarily sometimes) back the first day of practice, things have steadily improved as the systems and plans my colleague has recommended have begun to take root. With continued energy and effort on behalf of the (primarily underclassman--freshman, sophomores and juniors) athletes (as well as we coaches)I am confident that theses seed will bare fruit by the start of the second half. By "baring fruit," my realistic hope is not that our athletes will turn into world-beaters overnight, but rather that they'll be on their way to establishing a base for future success. Of course if one of them get's touched by the hand of the "running gods", so be it!

The team itself has grown smaller (I choose to think that the roster has become "refined") due to a few injuries with some academic issues mixed in for good measure. Perhaps one of the most visible successes for the team this year as compared to year's past (from what I've heard--the coaching staff as currently constituted is new this year) we at least had all athletes with relatively matching uniforms at Wednesday's team picture day... part of being good is looking the part, so score one for us!

Embrace your invincible summer!
