Music Monday: "Touchy!"

"She's waiting for the moment to explain itself..."

After a few weeks of esoteric Music Monday selections, I though I'd go more mainstream by selecting the tune above by a-ha. It's hard to believe that his band has been around for more over twenty years, and though I recognize that even a-ha doesn't necessarily qualify as "mainstream" anymore, I'll be darned if they are among my favorite purveyors of pop music.

The tune "Touchy!" was a single from the 1988 record (!) Stay on These Roads. For movie-theme buffs, that's the same record that included the James Bond theme The Living Daylights! Touchy was not one of their most successful U.S. singles, but it was a favorite of mine while a Frosh(!) in college.

Though a-ha did not seem to have the staying power here in the US of other similarly marketed Eighties synth-pop bands, such as Duran Duran (hello--both did James Bond themes!), I still enjoy listening to the older hits on CD and catching the newer release on the online. I may grasping at straws, but I think the "synth-pop" sound and songs hold up pretty well.
