After looking at the "weedy" overgrown mess above for three weeks (though the image above is following a brief burst of effort--note the pitchfork to the left!), I finally made it to my in-law's house to borrow their roto-tiller and, combined with the power of a metal garden rake with which to extract shallow viney weeds, turned over the earth in our urban garden in anticipation of planting a variety of tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers.
Following last year's poor yield, our goal had been to get an earlier start, and by some measures, we have done so. It appears as though it is going to be a humid, dry summer, so daily watering, and the eventual caging of the plants will be the next orders of business. Here's to hoping for a gross similar to two years ago, a fall during which we had plenty of peppers and tomatoes to freeze for winter sauces!
