For the first time since I began using the heart rate mointer, I managed to run a real Recovery/Long Run (see "Pace Guide" in left margin). By monitoring my heart rate, I would adjust my pace to ensure that I did not go higher than 85% or lower than 76%. This is a fairly big accomplishment for me, as I have had difficulty in the past not just going off and running as far and as fast as I am capable. As a result, I ran the entire distance without stopping, maintained a consistent breathing pattern, and had enough left at the end to believe I could go further, faster, if I needed to.
This morning, I went back to wearing the patella strap on my right knee, rather than the neoprene sleeve I chose for yesterday's run. My experience has been that the neoprene can chaffe and be uncomfortable when going longer distances. Today also saw the return on the double bnottle option on my hydration system, the Amphipod RunLite Hydration System.
I experieneced some recent challenges keeping the removable bottle in the hard plastic belt clips (the company calls this "Snapflask" technology), usually resulting in having the bottle fall to the ground two to three times a run--sometimes getting lost in the middle of a busy road. Until today I had been reluctantly using only one bottle, the thought being that if it did drop, and was lost, I'd have the spare at home for later use. Having experienced some hydration concerns recently, I figured I had little choice, given the intended distance of the run, but to try and bring two bottles. Fortunately for me, I had both bottles of H2O available, used them both, and did not lose either! I am soooo grateful for having been given this system by my wife and stepson last year and am glad I stuck with it--apparently, now I know what I'm doing!
I am feeling very good about my training after this morning's run!
