Next Lap: The 2006 Wild West Relay

I finally have an update about the upcoming Colorado Wild West Relay. My wife, step-son and I will be heading cross country from Upstate New York to Cheyenne, Wyoming, in a little over two weeks. Initially we had planned to go West simply to visit her brother, but as it turns out, he and I have joined a relay team (in the "Open" category, I think) which will be running from Fort Collins to Steamboat Springs.

The Wild West Relay is a 195-mile team running relay race in Colorado designed for runners of all abilities. The relay begins by the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Fort Collins, Colorado, and finishes in the beautiful ski and summer resort town of Steamboat Springs. Much of this very scenic and remote course runs through National Forests or along dirt roads. The route winds through Roosevelt, Medicine Bow, and Routt National Forests, and through small, mountain and ranching communities.

I have been assigned the following Legs: Distances, Elevation (Level of Difficulty, Easy to Very Hard):
Leg 10: 4.9 miles, +913/-58 = +855 (Very Hard)
Leg 22: 4.1 miles, +27/-478 = -451(Easy)
Leg 34: 5.3 miles, +5/-1827 = -1822(Very Hard)

If you're curious as to what the legs, and race in general, looks like, there is a 4 minute slide show (a Windoes Media file) being shared by the team 'Dallas Hill Wranglers' of their 2005 WWR experience. Click here.

Upon further reveiw, it appears I will be running up (and down) quite a bit of real estate!

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
