Once again, I've fallen terribly behind in following through on reading my e-mail, especially that from the two list serves I've subscribed to. One of these is My DailyOM. Each day, I receive an e-mail containing an "inspirational thought(s) for a happy, healthy and fulfilling day." The "note" I received, and only recently read, on Monday, July 24, was entitled Common Fears: Choosing a New Responses. Some pieces of what was shared instantly brought me back to a significant quote central to one of my favorite novels, Dune, by Frank Herbert. From last Monday's DailyOM:
Everyone has fears-it is a natural part of being human. Fear can protect us from harm by sending a rush of adrenaline to help us physically deal with potential danger. But there are times when fear may keep us from participating fully in life. Once we realize that fear is a state of mind, we can choose to face our fears, change our minds, and create the life we want to live. The "Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear" from Herbert's Dune seems to answer the question inherent in DailyOM's quote:
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.See the connection?
Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
