My Green Toe: Crop Check!

As I walked out this morning to the shed to finish painting the base coat of its front doors, I realized that I had not posted an update regarding our small urban garden in quite a few weeks. Of course this point occurred to me after seeing how overgrown (check out pic to right) the plantings had become and how badly I needed to hoe and weed out the garden! It appears as though after painting, doing some laundry and blogging, I've found something to keep myself busy this afternoon...

The real "up-and-comers" of the group are our tomatoes, especially the tiny ones (how's that for specificity!) pictured to the left. The whole family enjoys popping those bad boys into our mouths and, in the past, I have been known to occassionally eat them right of the vine. It won't be long before these are reday to harvest and we'll all be able to partake of the bounty. Unfortunately, the small tomatoes are growing the most quickly and they are the only ones we did not "cage." Anne has diligently checked the "crops" and carefully staked the plant using some sticks I collected last fall for just such a purpose.

The caged green and red peppers are equally popular as they can be frozen and used during the course of the year for many different purposes: pizza, pasta, salsa, and others. This year we decided not to grow the super hot peppers, as only I and she will eat them and as a result we still have quite a few left from last year.

We also have some eggplants (not pictured) which don't seem to be "doing much," but Anne assures me that they are indeed growing... as I'm sitting here typing maybe a better title for these garden notes would be "Anne's Green Toe!"

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
