Summer Project 1: Shed-Mania!

Not having to "work" for a couple of months during the summer creates a number of challenges like, "what should I do with all of my 'spare' time?" Because one can only look at so many birds, read so many books or run so many miles, occassionally I need to take on a home improvement project, some more ambitious than others. Over the past week, between appointmets and rainfalls, I have been finally painting the shed in our back yard. I say 'finally' because this had actually been a project I had intended to work on last year when we originally had our home painted.

The image directly below is of our home with its new(er) color scheme, as it was applied last spring by a professional painter. A veteran myself of painting he houses during a summer of unemployment about ten years ago, I knew right away this was one house I did NOT want to paint, so we found a painter who had done some good work on neighborhood houses in the past.

The folks who owned this house before us had a bizarre love of all things gray... battleship, dark, light... the interior and exterior featured a wide pallette of greys, blacks, and whites. Case in point, the shed as it appears below, pre-paint job, sporting the same exciting color scheme as our house previously had.

Painting can be a rewarding job as the results (when good) are easily observable. Painting can, however, also be a little tedious. To mix it up and screw with the neighbors, I painted only part of the front and left it for a few days... if they thought I was a redneck ebfore, I wonder how long they thought I might leave the shed in "winking-mode" like this?

Eventually I got back to work a few days later and the finished product looked like this. I was proud of how well it turned out and am thankful for my time on the painting "chain gang" all those summers ago!

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
