In an attempt to continue to mix up my training and keep things "fresh," I opted for a mid-afternoon run today. It was particularly comfotrable, weather-wise, so I had aniticiapted a relaxing jaunt, although I am aware that I need to, soon, work in a track workout. But, King Procrastination reigns supreme... and I'm paying the price!
The run was one of the most labored I've done in quite a while. Lets take a look and the pluses, minuses and what I learned:
Positives:During my run I began to consider the following: "what has changed since our return from Wyoming that could be negatively impacting my general training performance?"
1. Managed to (barely) maintain a Tempo Pace (85-94% avg MHR)
2. Did not quit the run, (although it had crossed my mind!)
Challenges:
1. A general feeling of being very bloated and heavy
2. Lacked disciplined focus when it was most needed
The two most significant factors were: first, I have greatly increased my intake of carbonated beverages by replacing H2O, with Caffiene-free Diet Coke (which was, fortunately, not readily avaibale in Wyoming). Second, my portions at meal time have been much larger, and the dedication to eat only the necessary meals daily has diminished. Oddly, I have not gained weight since returning, but have been ingesting (I think) wasted calories.
Fortunately, with a little committment (fingers crossed), these are both easily correctable "problems"--uh... right!
Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
