Running in Wyoming 1: Round and Round

Run: 5 miles in :40:50 min. @ 7:30 p.m.

Heart Monitor Data: 446 cals, 85% MHR avg., 93% MHR max.

Weather Report: Mostly Sunny, 78°F, 27% Humidity, Winds: WNW @ 17 mph; feels like 79°F.

After a visit to a Pony Express office in Gothenburg, Nebraska (more on this in alter post), we arrived at my brother-in-law's home just outside of Cheyenne, Wyoming, this afternnoon, and after spending some time touring his home, I began to dream about running down the gently sloping hills.

Although I was concerned about how my body might reposnd to the significant increase in elevation, I geared up and set out on ashort loop arund his neighborhood and out toward the thruway. Fortuntey, Anne was correct in suggesting that by running along the way, as we travelled cross-coutnry, over the past three days, I would become more acclimated to the change. I'm not "there" yet, but I felt comfortable enough during my run to make some adjustements and successfully complete the distance in my standard Recovery Run time. Increased hydration before, during and afterwards is a must--especially as the elevelation increases even more significantly during the Wild West Relay this weekend.

My team captain, my brother-in-law's girlfriend, has done a wonderful job organizing things (vehicles, hotels, "stuff")on the fly and I'm looking very forward to going on a trail training run tomorrow with them at Happy Jack tomorrow.

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
