Stop Spreading the News... For Now!

Nov 5, 2006 - ING New York City Marathon POSTPONED TIL 2007
You may have noticed the above change to my list of Upcoming Races which runs along the right margin of this blog. Let me explain...

After talking with my wife, and having had Anne try to figure out a cost effective way to get she and I there for the race, we have decided to forgo participating in this year's ING New York City Marathon this year, and instead focus on budgeting for more immediate needs, while keeping an eye towards running in it next year. With other financial obligations coming up (including both the need for a new car and catching up on the expenses from our trip to Wyoming to run in the Wild West Relay) it didn't make much sense to spend the $300+ dollars a night for two nights in NYC, not to mention the $400 for train tickets. C'est la vie!

So, am I dissappointed?Kind of, I guess, but not becuase I will never have the chance to run the "New York City Marathon," but mostly because I could kick myself for not thinking how complex competing in such a race would be. Up til this point (andl likely, in the forseeable future) I would sign up for the races I wanted to, maybe drive to the site, or stay one night in a neighboring town, and run. No problem. This particular race, though, was on a scale I foolishly did not anticipate... but, now I know.

So as Summer ends, I do have quite a few races to look forward to, just not the NYC Marathon. But, as I think about it this morning, I am really looking even more forward to finally using those snowshoes I got last year...!

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!

Unfortunately, NYC is about the most expensive city in the USA! Makes it kind of hard to zip in and out for a marathon. Good luck in next year's race!
