While the Wild West Relay began in Fort Collins, Wyoming, it concluded 195 miles away in Steamboat, Colorado. The Steamboat Middle School Track was the location of the Wild West Relay's finish line (more of which I'll discuss in a later post), and because some of Anne's family weren't running in the race, they opted to go to Steamboat a day in advance and meet us there. We spent the following day and a half there, recuperating from the race and checking out the local scenery.
In an effort to mix things up, I am sharing our two-day visit to Steamboat, Colorado, in pictures, not exclusively of natural scenery, but primarily of the variety of signs (store, park, street, etcetras) that we came across during our meanderings in this beautiful resort town.
While Steamboat is a fairly developed city, split into to parts, Upper and Lower, we spent most of our time walking along the Main Street of Lower Steamboat, which is the less upscale resort part, mostly along the Yampa River. Many people were also there enjoying the parks which ran on either side of the river. Apparently, they like to bring their dogs, too!

Tubing on the Yampa seems to be a big tourist attraction as well, and we obsreved many tubers weaving in between fly fishermen, as well as folks just wading in the water.

Later in the afternoon, Anne, her son and I took a gondala ride up Mount Werner. This was a terrifying experienec for me, but I was much more comfortable coming down.

While atop Mt. Werner there were quite a few trails to hike, one of which we briefly made our way down. We had to abruptly take the gondola back down the moutnain when a horn blst warned us of a rain storm on the horizon. (This never really developed, but I'm glad we knew what the horn blast signified.)

It sure seems like we're checking out quite a few National Parks!
Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
