While the weather was very pleasant again this week (perfect for running) my training has once again suffered, as I have not hit the trails or pavement since Monday. Weekend runs have not been much of an issue, but my runs during the work week have been non-existent. Through a series of terribly unfortunate events, my upcoming race schedule has been screwed up, my training "plan" is off-kilter and I have put on about 8 pounds in the last two weeks...Runner's Evidence One: Up until yesterday at 6:00 p.m. I was under the impression that I would be compteintg in the 2006 Charlie's Old Goat Trail Run 10 Miler. That is, until I was checking my calendar book and the unmailed application (filled out and in the enevelope) fell from the book. Granted, I could roll up to the course and sign up today, but I'm taking this unfortenuate event as a sign that I need to take this week "off" in order to better prepare for next weekends run.
Runner's Evidence Two: As a jammed (another) carton of Ben & Jerry's Karmel Sutra into my gullett last night, it became clear that I needed to get a handle on my calorie intake. During the summer when I was running between 6-10 miles daily, I could afford to be more cavalier with the occassional eating binge. Now that's not the case. Starting today, I'm going to begin logging, until I'm back in a healthy groove, the foods I eat.
Runner's Evidence Three: I spend too much time messing around on the Internet and too little time doign the things that can improve my life and running. Rather than wasting time and energy looking at "news" online, I could spend time with my family, running, bicycling... all activities that would improve my psychological and physical "shape," and therefor positively impact my running.
So, what's next?
A dietary log, a recommittment to training, and a better use of my time... its sunds easy but as always, the proof is in the pudding... not the Ben and Jerry's.
Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
