Castaway v. The Cold-Empowered Creepy Crud

I've been feeling pretty under the weather these last two days, a condition which has not been helped by the subzero wind chills we (like much of the Northeastern United States) have been experiencing here in River City. Judging from the weather reports, it appears as though it won't be warming up, enough worth mentioning anyway, for more than a week.

Current River City Weather:

Weather Report: Mostly Cloudy and Windy, 14°F, 41% Humidity, Winds: From WSW @ 27 mph, gusting up to 35 mph; feels like -5°F.

So, despite feeling sick and wrestling with the Cold-Empowered Creepy Crud, what my mom used to call any undiagnosed flu-like illness, I did pull myself out of bed this morning and went to school. I had considered calling in ill, and had even written some rudimentary lesson plans, but decided instead to suck it up and go to school, which was likely where I picked up my illness in the first place; many of our kids have been out the past few weeks with flu-like symptoms.

The decision regarding whether or not to come to work today was further complicated by the reality that I would not be in the classroom on Wednesday due to professional development, and I did not want to risk so much lost contact time. I spent class today setting up a series of activities which could proceed in my absence tomorrow, and the next day for sure as I knew I would be out. The day was long and my favorite ice cream vending machine was broken (mmm... Butter Finger bars!), but I made it through only slightly worse for the wear.

Now, home again, exhausted and achy, I'm looking forward to spending the evening and maybe tomorrow in bed.

Adio, wli nanawalmezi.
