Equipment Data: 7.3 Avg. Speed, 0.5 Avg. Incline, 528 cals.
Pace--:08:13 per mile

I made my way to the neighborhood YMCA this morning, this time armed with a headset, so I could plug into the "Cardio-theater" (translation: a radio receiver on the treadmill console) and listen to music and television while running. Despite some lingering pain after running yesterday, I am committed to both getting back on the horse, as well as to do so in a way that does not exacerbate any issues. This morning, while running, I listened to the radio to help me stay focused--which is kind of ironic...

When I first began running again, after a twelve year break, I would run very early in the morning and listen to music on my MP3 player. After a while, the music became more of a distraction and I grew to prefer "listening" to the environmental sounds a run, whether in the city or country, has to offer. Currently, I only listen to music or chatter while on a treadmill, I guess because it makes me feel like I am moving in a bigger world than that created by the running on a treadmill... the more expansive experience is facilitated by the audio stimulation the music provides.

Normally the audio, visual, emotional and spiritual stimulation of running outside "carries" me through the physical challenge of getting from Point A to Point B. On the treadmill, where there is no true Points A or B, the music helps me move through my run... maybe the runner's soul, like music, does indeed, vibrate...

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
