An Early Morning Run and Community Support Opportunity

Run: 5.1 miles in :42:04 @ 8:15 a.m.

Weather Report: Cloudy, 36°F, 93% Humidity, Winds: CALM; feels like 36°F.

Pace--:08:20 min. per mile

I'm finding myself slowly getting back into the swing of things albeit at a slightly less ambitious mileage than I had previously been working at. It is becoming easier to accept and run through the aches and pains, even those that feel "new" (right hip), and this is due in no small part to my more disciplined efforts to stretch appropriately.

Today's course took me back through downtown River City, and over the inner loop, which in a few short hours will be full (hopefully) of community members who will be walking or running in our mayor's Fair Share 5K. Sponsored by the Rochester Fair Share Coalition, this event is much more an opportunity to show support than an actual race (there is no registration fee, chip timing or certified course). It is , however, the first effort of its kind in the city that joins community leaders in a quest for equitable state aid. Apparently we here in River City (Rochester) receives less funding per resident than either Syracuse and Buffalo? While there is a proposed increase of financial support for Rochester if the state budget is approved, Rochester still would have the smallest amount of aid. Specifically, Rochester would receive $160 less than Buffalo and $98 less than Syracuse, per person. By no means does Rochester want to compete with those two great cities, so we are just asking for its fair share.

Unfortunately, I will be driving my daughter to her basketball game in a neighboring suburb (also where I teach), so will be unable to be at the walk or run, but will continue to support our local government's efforts to procure an equitable share of funding for our schools and community.

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!

Two things doth I hate and loathe: ab work and stretching, though both should be my personal law. I dont know why I avoid them----probably because they are so boring. You and I are at such different levels, even so just a weekend jogger like me should know to stretch before and after. I am feeling it this morning. Have a great week.

It seems like there is something extra special about being able to run for the added benefit of a charity or cause that you believe in.

steve--i'm learning to love the strecth, not becuase i partucularly draw any enjoyment, but becuase i have little choice! ;-)
i aree that it does feel better to partcioate in races that support causes i support--it seems like there is no shortage of runs (especially 5ks) so i can afford to be selective.
happy trails this weekend!
