Run: 11.58 miles in 1:36:00 @ 9:06 a.m.

Weather Report: Partly Cloudy with some occasional Light Drizzle, 74°F, 71% Humidity, Winds: From SW @ 5 mph; feels like 74°F.

Pace: 8:17 min./per mile avg.

Having taken the entire day off from work to attend my son's school awards ceremony later in the day, I had decided early on to spend at least part of the morning going for a run. In the spirit of adventure, I even elected to drive to a canal path and run there rather than simply sticking to the local streets.

The one problem was the lingering ache in my knees (I know this sounds like a broken rec... er... CD?), but the nice weather was too much of a siren drawing me to the "road," and the ache could be dulled by popping some Ibuprofen.

The tough thing about running and trails and canals (for a nut like me who likes to track to the best of his ability the distance run--without the benefit of a global positioning system) is determining how far I will have run. Often I'll just estimate my mile pace run and go from there. Fortunately, another person has done the tough part of charting the mileage for the area of the Erie Canal in my county. After a quick search, I came across the Erie Canal Running Distances (miles) care of the Greater Rochester Track Club website and prepared by GRTC member, Mike May. Today I entered the canal path at Edgewood Avenue, after parking my car at the Rochester JCC, and made my way east, eventually turning back at the Marsh Road Bridge in Perinton. According to the chart, a distance of approximately 5.79 miles.

The "round trip" run was a grand total of (roughly) 11.58 miles! WOW!

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
