If you know what type of vegetable is pictured above, please let me know...While it has been a short time since I last posted about our garden, but things have been progressing nicely. As previously mentioned, the most interesting part of our garden this year, other than the marvelous pizzas Anne has made with the harvests so far), has been the level of unpredictability regarding what has bloomed.
The "mystery" and "rogue" vegetables have continued to grow and grow and grow… and have now flowered and “fruited,” though exactly what type of squashy-gourdy--type vegetable they are remains an ever-unfolding mystery.
The mystery veggie a few weeks ago:
and BAM! the same plant today!
As you can see, this bad boy has spread out and enveloped the pepper plants around it, but we don't want to pull it out, at least until we know what it is! The picture at the top of the post is what you see when you move aside the large leaves... any guesses as to the veggie?

you are a city slicker-it is yellow crookneck squash, so what you do is pick them small wash good slice and fry in olive oil when done put grated cheese on top verrry good
you got me... i am the super city slicker in search of a more rural soul...
thanks for the info... it makes sense as the compost from our pit is sure to have had quite a few squash seeds, given all the squashy foods eaten in the fall... and now i know which one has come back to help sustain us!

Yep, I think squash family as well. The leaves look too pointy for zucchini (I think!) Anyway, pretty soon you'll know what it is! ;-)
Is it Okra? That's what it looks like from here.

Not okra - okra is tall and much different with very different flowers - I just picked a batch this morning. I agree it looks to me like yellow crookneck squash! :) How fun is that to find "wild" vegies!! LOL!
