I had really hoped to sleep in a little this morning, but Gracie (our dog) would have nothing to do with it. Having been awoken so early I figured "what the heck," I'd go for a run. Previously, I had not really taken notice of just how dark it was out in the morning even at 7:00 a.m., though I have observed recently that the darkness has severely limited (actually, eliminated) my ability to ride my bicycle to work anymore.

So, I slugged two cups of joe and awaited the dawn-rise...

While at a cross country dual meet this past Tuesday I was chatting with one of the coaches about an athlete with whom I had previously worked who was now running for him. I had mentioned how talented I felt the student-athlete potentially was, when the coach suggested that "if only he knew how to train... not to treat each practice as if it were a race to be run." After my run two days ago, those words came back to me, but in reference to my own "training." Every run is not a race and maintaining the appropriate pace is a discipline in itself.

A much more successful run this morning, thanks in no small part to the more favorable temps, I'm sure.

Breathe in, breathe out… YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
