last year in Fall 2007. Just our luck that the local weather forecasters were
actually right about today's weather... crappy!
Though it may be warmer today (than the previous five days of 33-ish °F temps), it is unfortunately also much wetter. The precipitation began early this morning and does not look to be letting up until well into the afternoon, which is also very unfortunate.
Today the high school sports Monroe County X-Country (Section V) Championship meet at Mendon Ponds Park will be held, and both of my son and daughter will be competing. For my son, this is his second go at the modified course, and for my daughter though this will also be her second, as a Senior this year, it will also be her last shot at the varsity course.
Due to the precipitation, the course is likely to be more dangerous than in recent regular season meets run there this season. I reminded my daughter to purchase some new inserts (spikes) for her racing flats (shoes) in hopes of having her achieve better traction. My son though, as an eighth grader, competes in his running shoes, and it will likely be a matter of just being careful with his foot strike so as to avoid a slip. Truthfully, as long as his friends are their, they can stay relatively dry and there is lots of food at the school's tent--which there will be--it will be a "bully" day for him.
The folks at their school are great about taking and posting photographs from the meets so I'll do my best to post some (along with the official results) in the not-too-distant future.
