The Old (Logging) Ways

“There are four ways, and only four ways, in which we have contact with the world. We are evaluated and classified by these four contacts: what we do, how we look, what we say, and how we say it.”~Dale Carnegie
Following this past weekend's frustrating attempts to maintain my online log here, I have once again begun tracking my mileage (and weather and performance--among other things!) using the tried-and-true method of a standard training log.

After having completed two log books which were given to me as swag for one race or another, and having completed a Jim Fixx log book which I was gifted with last Christmas, I am returning to the standard log book. This particular one was a freebie sent to me for resubscribing to Runner's World magazine almost exactly like the one pictured to the left).

Already, I am feeling a personal sense of commitment simply through the act of placing pen to paper... oddly, the practice of placing things on paper in a kinesthetic manner gives me a greater sense of commitment to the information, goals and performances. The element of post-run "logging" which is the most difficult in the book (as opposed to online) is the rambling reflections and jottings that training runs often prompt in my head, so I suppose (when possible) I will continue to include these scribblings and visions online... when my computer will allow me!
