Christmases Past: The Most "Precious" Gift

What child is this that emotionally responds to the greatest
gift of all? Why it's my number one son, Jack!

Not! But, certainly the most interesting response to a nifty gift in the past few years at our household.

For months prior to Christmas last year, at just about every opportunity, we would (as a family) joke about getting an X-Box 360 as a gift--for Halloween, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, Election Day...

Last Christmas morning after everyone had opened their gifts (books, calendars, clothes--the usual), my wife pulled out one wrapped box for us (kids and I) to open. I had no recollection of what the gift was, but figured it was some sort of family style gift that I had simply forgotten in all the brouhaha...

Upon tearing away the gift wrap the kids and I realized we had received the most previous gift, nay, the Holy Grail of gifts... an X-BOX 360! The picture above is of one of my most precious gifts, my son Jack, after recognizing what the gift was... I can only hope for such an emotional response when I am old and sick! (The honest-to-goodness truth is that it was a very thoughtful gift from my wife to the kids --and me. Thank goodness the kids actually deserved it!)

Who says the spirit of Christmas is not still alive?
